    True Story: For years, I'd heard about the Nigerian Scam, or the Spanish Lottery, but never actually received them myself. Almost felt a bit left-out.
    Then, after I got a faculty email address, I started getting them. And, when I started to think about it...

    That tends to imply that someone actually made a point of harvesting for email addresses from universities. Someone actually thought to himself, "hmm... who can I scam today? I know! I'll look for people with jobs that frequently require PhDs! They're the dumbest people of all!"
    I'm not entirely certain that was a good use of his time.

    Heh. And since there isn't really a 'topic' to derail, may as well really get off-topic... Just the other day, I was commenting to someone on how strange it was that it's always the exact same scams. Like, you'd think they'd at least pick different countries to supposedly be offering all of these riches. Sure enough, pretty dang soon, I got an email about the Italian Lottery! oooooh!
    (Well, I assume that's what "Lotteria D'Italia" means. With how limited my knowledge of Italian is, technically I can't definitively state that it wasn't from Chef Boyardee)
